Analysis of Risk-Based Operational Bird Strike Prevention

چکیده

Bird strike prevention in civil aviation has traditionally focused on the airport perimeter. Since risk of especially damaging bird strikes outside boundaries is rising, this paper investigates safety potential operational involving pilots and controllers. In such a concept, controllers would be equipped with advisory system, allowing them to delay departures which are most vulnerable consequences case high risk. An initial study shown strong concept prevent perfect movement prediction. This takes research next level by taking into account limited predictability tracks. As such, collision avoidance algorithm extended algorithm. The calculated for birds expected cross runway center line cause aircraft damage upon impact. By specifically targeting these excluding lingering taken care local wildlife control, capacity reductions should limited, implementation remain feasible. extrapolation tracks performed simple linear regression based positions known at intended take-off times. To calculate probability collision, uncertainties resulting from variability velocity track included. demonstrates necessity limit alerts potentially crossing keep imposed delays tolerable airports operating their limits. It that predicting movements without considering individual behavior insufficient achieve safety-effect. Hence, in-depth studies multi-year data develop models reliable predictions recommended future research. facilitate system satisfying both aspects.

The Costs of Bird Strikes and Bird Strike Prevention

Collisions between birds (and other wildlife) and aircraft are known to cause substantial losses to the aviation industry in terms of damage and delays every year. Techniques exist to control bird numbers on airfields and hence to reduce the number of wildlife strikes, but they are applied at widely different levels from airport to airport. Some of this variation may be due to differing levels ...

International Bird Strike Committee

Aircraft repeatedly prove that birds and aircraft cannot occupy the same airspace at the same time. In an average year about 3000 birdstrikes cause 50-80 million US dollars in damage to USAF aircraft. To the worldwide aviation fleet this problem is estimated to cost more than three billion US dollars per year. Factors for consideration in establishing birdstrike resistance requirements, and in ...

A Protocol for Bird Strike Risk Assessment at Airports

In order for airports to manage the bird strike risk effectively, a risk assessment process needs to be carried out to identify the major hazards at the airport, the levels of risk that they produce, and the most cost effective means of reducing that risk. Despite the fact that bird controllers, managers and consultants make informal bird strike risk assessments throughout their working lives, ...

Operational Risk – Scenario Analysis

This paper focuses on operational risk measurement techniques and on economic capital estimation methods. A data sample of operational losses provided by an anonymous Central European bank is analyzed using several approaches. Multiple statistical concepts such as the Loss Distribution Approach and the Extreme Value Theory, including scenario analysis method, are considered. Custom plausible lo...

The fast and forceful kicking strike of the secretary bird

The study of animal locomotion has uncovered principles that can be applied to bio-inspired robotics, prosthetics and rehabilitation medicine, while also providing insight into musculoskeletal form and function [1-4]. In particular, study of extreme behaviors can reveal mechanical constraints and trade-offs that have influenced evolution of limb form and function [1,2]. Secretary birds (Sagitta...
